The Surviving Digital training event took place in Greece recently. The participants took part in training aimed to help parents and educators of children aged 0-6 gain understanding, skills and knowledge to control screen time and digital addiction. Laurence is looking after this project for Momentum, and he’d like thank IASIS for being wonderful hosts. IASIS provide therapeutic and counselling services as well as psychosocial support to people who are in need. This is just the perspective we needed, as we are finding and highlighting methods of combating screen addiction in families with young children.
Screen addiction is a serious problem, impacting the wellbeing of families and children across the world. The project partners and participants learned about how screen time can affect young children and looked at tools to reduce usage and techniques to lessen the effects of screen time such as mindfulness. The team also took part in various activities and exercises, that could be used instead of giving a child a screen.
Laurence did a presentation of the PR4 output, which is the Surviving Digital Toolkit, and he wrapped up the training with a multilingual mindfulness session, which got great feedback from the participants.
The project partners, and participants, learnt about the work of IASIS, including their Fabric Republic, which manages excess clothing and aims for Zero Waste. They also visit the IASIS Day Centre, which is an open service centre for adults who deal with mental health issues. The goal of the centre is to act both at the level of psychosocial rehabilitation through various therapeutic programs as well as at the level of prevention and information on Mental Health.
The partnership also got to review the project resources, and to make plans for the remainder of the project. It was a very interesting event, and we’d like to thank our project partners for their hard work: Le Laba, Saint Denis, institut de recherche et d’innovation, iasis, European E-Learning Institute and materahub.
