December saw the launch of a practical ‘Treasure Box’ of resources created through the electronic Work-Based Learning – eWBL Project. This initiative has been a labour of collaboration, passion, and commitment to reimagining work-based learning in a digital environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education institutions, employers, and students faced unprecedented challenges in transitioning from traditional work-based learning to online formats—often with little time to plan or adapt. The eWBL project emerged as a response to this, aiming to empower educators with freely available resources to design and deliver high-quality digital work-based learning programs.
The vision was to enhance the employability and work readiness of graduates for a rapidly evolving digital workforce. We’re excited to share these resources, developed to support educators, employers and students navigate digital work-based learning:
- National and Case Study Reports: In-depth analyses of how eWBL has been implemented across Europe, offering key insights into best practices and challenges.
- eWBL Framework: A practical guide outlining five essential phases—Design, Preparation, Onboarding, Delivery, and Assessment—with a focus on quality assurance to support effective eWBL implementation.
- Capacity-Building Programs: Training initiatives delivered across Germany, Italy, Ireland, Slovenia, and the Netherlands to equip educators, trainers, and administrative staff with the skills to deliver impactful eWBL programs.
- eWBL Toolkit: A hands-on resource packed with step-by-step guidance, tools, templates, and examples to help educators create high-quality eWBL experiences.
- Treasure Box of Open Educational Resources (OERs): A rich collection of videos, training materials, and more to support educators in implementing eWBL.
We may have reached the end of this project, but the professional connections we’ve built with our partners (Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, University of Groningen, FH Münster, University of Ljubljana Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini) and the resources we’ve created will continue to inspire and support the future of work-based learning.
