VETCompass Hybrid Meeting in Dublin: Advancing Transversal Skills for VET Educators Across Europe

The VETCompass partnership recently gathered in Dublin for a productive hybrid project meeting, bringing together representatives from across Europe to continue advancing one of the most innovative initiatives in vocational education and training (VET). The meeting marked another important step in the consortium’s mission to strengthen the transversal competences of VET teachers, trainers, and staff – skills that are increasingly essential in today’s dynamic education landscape.

Laurence Cole attended on behalf of Momentum, joining colleagues both in person and online as the team reviewed progress and coordinated next steps. The session reflected the project’s strong commitment to enhancing the quality and attractiveness of VET through strategic skill development.

The discussion focused on the project’s core aim: identifying the 10 key transversal skills VET educators need. Together, they strengthen inclusive teaching, learner support, digital and literacy practice, resilience and leadership, and strong links with industry, careers guidance, and work-based learning across all VET pathways.

The meeting also looked ahead to the next phase: finalising the game-based assessment tool and analysing VET teachers’ transversal skills across Europe, so the project outputs stay practical, relevant, and aligned with today’s priorities in VET systems.

The VETCompass project is developing a suite of innovative outputs designed to transform how VET institutions support educators. These include:

  • A Transversal Skills Assessment Framework, codesigned with European VET practitioners.
  • A game-based digital assessment tool, making skills evaluation engaging and interactive.
  • A toolbox library of resources to support continuous professional development (CPD) for VET staff.

During the Dublin meeting, partners exchanged insights and updates on the development of these tools, ensuring alignment across work packages and discussing methods for piloting the assessment instruments with educators across multiple countries.

Beyond technical progress, the hybrid format allowed partners to reconnect, share experiences, and strengthen the collaborative spirit that drives the project. This engagement reinforces the project’s long-term vision: to equip VET educators with the transversal skills they need to guide learners effectively through rapidly changing labour markets and learning environments. term vision: to equip VET educators with the transversal skills they need to guide learners effectively through rapidly changing labour markets and learning environments.
