On June 5th and 6th, the Welcome Work partners met for their last in-person meeting at the Momentum office in Leitrim Village, Ireland. We had project representatives from Denmark, France, Spain, and Poland. They were delighted to visit Ireland not just to discuss the project advancement and the next steps but to get a taste of Irish culture too.
During the first day, they went over management tasks, and updates on the project results so far. An update on the completion of the Welcome Work Starter Kit was given by our Spanish lead. This is a detailed resource designed to support the integration of refugees into the European construction sector. In it you can find practical tools, real-world examples, and guidance for educators, employers, and support professionals. There was also discussion on the progress of the Good Practice Compendium. The inspiring resource is for educating employers in the construction industry on how to have a welcoming environment for refugees. This is a comprehensive resource with articles, case studies, and step by step instructions on inclusive integration of refugee workers.
The afternoon took our partners on a tour of the Future Cast Mechanical and Electrical Training and Assessment Centre at the Mill Business Park in Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon. We were given a tour by their COO, Mary Whitney, around their state-of-the-art facility. It’s a cutting-edge training hub to equip workers with the skills needed for the green and digital economy. We were excited to see a great example of a facility that is available to train refugees who are interested in working in the construction industry.
Our second day in Leitrim brought lovely weather and a look at our project dissemination. We brainstormed ways to improve our reach with our target group. Furthermore, we looked at optimizing our use of social media channels. Planning was had on blogs to further educate our followers on our resources and the best way for usage.
