AIMS – Artificial Intelligence for Medical Students

About the Project

Objectives: AIMS aims to modernize medical education for the AI era, ensuring that teachers and students not only keep pace with technological advances, but also lead their effective and ethical integration into medical practice. By innovating teaching methodologies and strengthening digital skills, we prepare HEIs not only to adapt, but also to anticipate the challenges and opportunities brought about by the digital revolution.

Project Description

More specifically, AIMS seeks to:

  • Update the knowledge of HEADMASTERS AND ACADEMIC COORDINATORS on the trends and advanced applications of AI in contemporary medicine. The Synergy Matrix will be a curriculum map that documents ‘Use Cases’ (specific scenarios where AI can solve challenges or improve learning) and will visually show the synergies of AI with undergraduate disciplines such as biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, public health, etc. Developed in collaboration with 30 experts, it will be used by 250 rectors and coordinators, with a projected 500 users in the short term after the project’s completion.
  • Accelerate the integration of new learning for the benefit of thousands of medical students by guiding COORDINATORS AND TEACHERS to update their curricula and teaching methods. The Competency Framework and Teaching Kit will be developed by teachers and AI experts, tested by 50 teachers, and downloaded and used by 350 teachers, increasing to 700 after the project.
  • Provide STUDENTS in the early stages of undergraduate study with a solid grounding in the scientific principles, practical use, and ethical considerations of AI, establishing a foundation for its application throughout their studies and careers. The AIMS Digital Course will teach AI through AI, with virtual assistants, clinical simulations, diagnostic exercises, and more. It will be tested by 350 early-stage medical students before being introduced into our courses, reaching thousands of students in the coming years.

The objectives reflect a commitment to promoting a digital transformation in HEIs based not only on technical skills, but also on ethical and social skills: European values will be at the heart of the project, and we will promote critical thinking and civic engagement.
