Kick start your Creative Career – Spotlight on YEA

If you are thinking of kick starting your Creative Career this spring then the Youth Enterprise through Arts Programme will support you on your way forward. We’re excited to tell you that, coinciding with Creativity Month 2017 our free YEA online course www.yea-project.eu/classroom-course is online now. The online learning programme is designed for people interested in designing their own career in the creative sector.

Creativity Month in Northern Ireland is an exciting programme of events taking place throughout March, celebrating Creativity and the Creative Industries in Northern Ireland. The YEA online course is FREE and is all about enhancing the innovative capacities of young people. We are aiming to help younger artists, designers and makers to explore their own creativity and to think of entrepreneurship as a valid career choice for the future. Feedback from participants said that the course provides an” Excellent array of content! Its short, easy to access and to the point which are all incredibly attractive traits.” and “Such a fantastic course, it provided me with such powerful ideas in regards to starting up my own business.

Many ‘artist-entrepreneurs’ don’t necessarily set out to start a business. Your main focus might be on developing your own practice, but then you find yourself faced with the fact that you need to earn a living which will allow you to make enough money to continue your artistic practice. This is where your plan or strategy for the next 1-3 year is so important. Perhaps you are continuing your studies to develop your practice part time and working in a coffee shop to earn some money to cover your bills and allow you the time and space to write or make music- this is all part of the process. Taking part in the YEA online course will help you. It is a free course which you can access at a time that suits you, evenings, weekends or a little each day. Learning online offers you more time to fully absorb the information.

Not every young person wants to set up their own business but they do want to have a fulfilling / successful life. Running your own business can be both challenging and rewarding. It will allow you the independence to capitalise on your creative skills and knowledge- be your own boss. By doing what you are interested in this means you can have creative freedom, a better work life balance and financial opportunities in the marketplace. If you dream big it can become your reality but not without much planning and hard work. You will need to enter the process knowing that you will encounter failure and setbacks along the way but you will learn from each one and learn to move on.

“Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again.”

The YEA course will help you to gain a better understanding of the creative industries. You will learn how to develop your entrepreneurial skills and find out how highly employers value innovative individuals. The goal of the course is to empower young individuals to become entrepreneurs and high valued employees.
