Project Description

AI Researchers is an Erasmus+ project bringing partners together across Europe to support academic supervisors, higher education leaders and research organisations as AI becomes an increasingly normal part of research practice.

It aims to help institutions move from uncertainty to clear, usable practices that make AI a credible support for research and supervision rather than a source of confusion or risk.

It seeks to engage with target groups across Europe and welcomes input from academic supervisors, doctoral training and researcher development leads, research leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders as the project progresses.

After the kick-off event in 2025, partners began building the project’s evidence base, including a survey and focus group approach to explore real-world barriers and drivers for AI adoption in research settings.

This work will help the partnership understand what supervisors and institutional leaders need in order to use AI confidently and responsibly, while protecting research quality, integrity and trust.

The findings from work package (#2) will feed directly into practical project outputs, including an AI Engagement Framework and an AI Readiness Toolkit, with resources that departments and doctoral training and researcher development teams can implement.

The AI Researchers partnership includes:
